Explore mycelial magic in Kasitsna Bay…

Join UAA Professor, Dr. Philippe Amstislavski for a 3-day immersive retreat to learn about mycelium & mushroom identification and collection, the plastic debris problem on our shorelines (including participating in a beach cleanup!), and his work with producing biodegradable mycelium coolers.

This is a non-credit community workshop.

This program is designed for adults, however if someone of high school age is interested in attending, they must be accompanied by an adult. Please contact us for more information or discussion.

When: September 27th-29th

Cost: $100 per person (The cost for this program is graciously subsidized by a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.)

Cost includes boat travel, lodging in Kasitsna Bay, and meals for all 3 days. The Kasitsna Bay lodging consists of a bunkhouse with a shared kitchen and bathrooms. Each room has four beds.

Dr. Amstislavski’s UAA Faculty Bio

Dr. Amstislavski's work centers on the nexus of Circumpolar public and environmental health. He teaches environmental health, statistics and GIS/spatial analysis courses within the MPH Program. He also researches and develops biotechnologies to reduce our environmental footprint in high-latitude regions. His innovation in biomaterials is at the core of the Biomaterials Lab at UAA. He earned a PhD from the Earth and Environmental Sciences at City University of New York and his master’s degree from Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.
