Book a group excursion in Kachemak Bay

From week-long ecology excursions to service learning expeditions and workshops, the Peterson Bay Field Station can be the hub for your next group trip. Explore the options and get in touch with us to schedule your next excursion.

  • Ecology field study for college, high school or other organized youth or adult groups can be arranged during the spring, summer, or fall. Program length ranges from one to seven plus days with guided activities based out of the Peterson Bay Field Station, and lodging provided in five comfortable yurts.

In this immersive environment, students head out on the trails and beaches to learn about topics such as the changing coastal forests and invasive species; water quality, plankton tows, and Harmful Algal Blooms; intertidal ecology and monitoring efforts at Otter Rock and China Poot Bay; and human interactions with these lands and waters over time.

We'll work with you to create a schedule of activities that fits your groups' focus, interests, abilities, and needs. Additional activities available at the Wynn Nature Center, Kasitsna Bay Lab, or aboard a kayak or water taxi in Kachemak Bay.

  • Service Learning Expeditions can be arranged from May - October. Groups learn about natural history and stewardship through service projects. Projects can include trail work, building projects, invasive plant management, facilities beautification, data collection through monitoring projects, and more.

  • Group retreats can be arranged at the Peterson Bay Field Station. Enjoy a semi-remote, rustic setting to connect your group to the amazing natural surroundings and to each other.
