    • Scholarships are available to help ensure our programs remain accessible. For more information, please contact our Program Director or fill out our scholarship application.

    • Participants should come dressed appropriately for the weather for this outdoor program. In general your child will need rain gear, warm layers, shoes or boots that can get a little wet, a snack, and a water bottle.

  • Enrollment is limited to just 10 campers per session, so we ask that you notify us at least 48 hours in advance of each session if your child will not be attending.

In the event of a cancellation, you may elect to enroll in another session date and your payment will transfer, or receive a refund minus 20% for processing.

Cancellations without notice or within 48 hours of a session will not receive a refund, nor will be eligible to have their payment transfer to a different date.

  • How quickly does this camp fill?

SPIT Kids runs three times a week during the summer, and is very popular with local Homer families. To be notified when registration is open, please sign up for our email list. If you are not able to secure a spot, please contact us to inquire about our waitlist.

Will campers be outside if it's raining?

Yes! Even in the rain, campers are able to explore and experience Homer's incredible coastal ecosystem. Please make sure your child comes to camp with appropriate rain gear. As the old saying goes: there's no such thing as bad weather, just ill-suited clothing!

Do I need to pack my child a lunch?

This program is less than three hours long. We encourage campers to bring snacks if they get hungry. If your camper has any food allergies or dietary restrictions, please let our staff know during registration.

How does Coastal Studies manage campers' behavior?

Our staff are dedicated and trained to help all participants have successful and educational experiences. Please review our Behavioral Policy to learn more about how we support our students and create a positive learning environment.

Can you clarify the ages for camp?

When registering for camps, please respect the age limits we have set for each camp. This allows us to best support youth in an age-appropriate way. If your child is too old or too young for a camp, please explore our other camps for programs aimed at younger or older children.

If your child/teen has a summer birthday (June, July, or August), and will meet the minimum age requirement for a camp at that point you may register them for camp so long as they have completed the following grade of school:

    • Bio-Kids at Wynn: completed kindergarten

    • SPIT Kids at the Harbor: completed kindergarten

    • Day Camp: completed 1st grade

    • Trackers at Wynn: completed 2nd grade

    • Kachemak Camp: completed 3rd grade

    • Wynn Exploration Camp: completed 4th grade

    • Between the Tides, Fins & Scales, and Marine Mammal Camp: completed 4th grade

    • Teen Peatland Expedition: completed 6th grade

    • Teen Eco-Adventure Camp: completed 7th grade

    • Marine Science Expedition: completed 10th grade

If your child/teen has a spring birthday, please register them for camps based on their age at the time the camp will run (not based on their age at registration).  If your child/teen has a June, July, or August birthday and will just barely exceed the upper age limit for camp, please contact us to discuss options: katieg@akcoastalstudies.org or 907-235-1974
