Marine Science Expedition
General registration for summer 2025 will open in spring 2025.
This expedition is only open to Alaskan teens from Prince William Sound, Resurrection Bay, Kachemak Bay, Lower Cook Inlet, the Kodiak Archipelago, and the Alaska Peninsula.
Explore the amazing marine ecosystems that sustain us, learn about the unique coastal cultures of Kachemak Bay, and build leadership and teamwork skills all while having fun paddling through Kachemak Bay on this water-based adventure!
Days will be filled with kayak adventures, hands-on science and stewardship, cultural learning, and getting to know each other. Participants will kayak from campsite to campsite and may also learn about kayak rescue skills, swim or snorkel, and dip-net for salmon. Evenings include delicious camp cooking, relaxing around the campfire, reflection activities, art, games, and sleeping in tents.

This expedition is part of the CORaL Network and is funded by the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council. Therefore, we are able to offer this expedition for only a $50 deposit. We are grateful for their support!

The Marine Science Expedition is an overnight kayak-focused expedition. Teens will camp in various locations around Kachemak Bay, including some time in Kachemak Bay State Park. No prior kayaking or camping experience is necessary.
A few weeks from the camp's start date, you'll receive an introductory email from the program leader detailing departure times. A detailed packing list will be included in your confirmation email. At minimum, participants will need to bring a sleeping bag, rain gear, good walking shoes, and a water bottle.

This camp is provided at a very low cost as part of the CORaL Network, with funding from the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill Trustee Council. Because the only cost is a $50 deposit, we will not provide refunds for cancellations.
Sudden Camp Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel due to an emergency or the participant cannot stay for the full camp after the camp has already started, please contact us and we can discuss options around a partial refund. Examples include but are not limited to: family medical emergency, participant experiences an illness and needs to go home, camp cannot meet pre-disclosed participants behavioral health needs. This Sudden Camp Cancellation Policy does not apply when there is a violation to our Behavior Policy, section “Right to Revoke Access.”
