Current Status of Chinook (King) Salmon in Kachemak Bay

Join Fish & Game area managers Mike Booz and Holly Dickson to hear about lower Kenai Peninsula Chinook salmon, and details on the freshwater and saltwater Chinook salmon sport fisheries in the Homer area

Hear details on ADF&G’s monitoring efforts towards Chinook salmon in the lower Kenai Peninsula streams over the last two decades including escapement counts, run timing, and biological compositions for the Anchor and Ninilchik Rivers and Deep Creek. Additionally, there will be discussion of Chinook salmon sport fishing opportunities in the Homer area, including details on the stock composition of the Chinook salmon harvest in the saltwater fisheries, information of the Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon, and management approach to the freshwater sport fisheries.

Mike Booz is the Sport Fish Area Management Biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game based in the Homer office. Mike is originally from Delaware and has a B.S from the University of Delaware in Wildlife Conservation. He has been involved research and monitoring efforts for salmon on the Kenai Peninsula since the early 2000’s. Mike starting working for the sport fish division in Homer in 2006 and progressed to area manager in 2019. He is an avid sport fisherman and a self proclaimed king salmon snob.

Holly Dickson is the Sport Fish Assistant Area Management Biologist for the Alaska Department of Fish and Game based in the Homer office. Holly is Homer grown and second generation Fish and Game. She started working seasonally a technician within the Homer Sport Fish management group in 2011 and became a biologist in 2018. She has a B.S in journalism from Cal Poly and is currently pursuing a M.S. in fisheries marine policy at UAF. She takes sport fishing very seriously and can be found fishing our locals streams and trolling for king salmon in Kachemak Bay whenever she’s not at work.
