Winter Ecology
Winter Ecology Camp (Grades 4-12)

Classes participate in 2-3 day residential field science and winter survival skills program on the snowy bluffs overlooking Homer. Students are introduced to the winter ecology of boreal ecosystems through hands-on activities. Activites include guided snowshoe natural history hikes, winter science labs, animal tracking, building snow structures and shelters, and more. All activities are correlated with state and district science standards. Students overnight in heated yurts near the Wynn Nature Center.

Wynn Winter Ecology (Grades 4-6)
Get your students outside in the winter at Wynn Nature Center. We can provide an exciting 2-3 hour program to explore winter ecology with your class. Students particpate in hands-on leanring about how plants and animals survive the winter in Alaska. Hands-on activities also inclued a snow density experiment, digging a snow pit, hunting for animal tracks in the snow and learning how to snowshoe. Students also get to experience the insulating effect of snow by building thier own snow cave.

Snowshoe Exploration (Grades K-3)
Explore the snowy trails of Wynn Nature Center on snowshoes! Students learn how to use snow shoes, hunt for signs of animals and think about animal adaptations to winter life.
Program length: 1-2 hours
Program dates: November- March, depending on snow
