Junior Naturalist Summer Camp

June 20-23, 2020

Ages 9-12. Four-day camp with two-day sessions at the Wynn Nature Center and two overnights at the Peterson Bay Field Station. Explore the diverse habitats and wildlife of the forests and beaches around Kachemak Bay. Activities include animal tracking & game cams, forest hikes, tidepooling, outdoor fun, and adventure!  $450 per person.  PERFECT for a first-time camper!  Use the button at the top to register your camper online!

Marine Mammal Mysteries

August 3-7, 2020

Ages 10 - 12. This camp is for kids who are curious about the ins and outs of marine mammals. Campers will spend 4 nights and 5 days at the Peterson Bay Field Station learning about marine mammals, being wildlife detectives and articulating (or putting together) a mystery skeleton with "Mr. Bones", Lee Post! Includes a wildlife boat tour on Kachemak Bay to view marine mammals. Cost: $600 per person. Use the button above to register your camper online!

Teen EcoAdventure Camp

July 6-16, 2020

For ages 12-15, this 10 day outdoor adventure and environmental stewardship camp explores the changing environment and how this connects to a most basic and delicious part of our lives - food! Activities include backcountry & yurt camping, hiking along forests, beaches, alpine, and at the foot of a glacier, berry picking and preserving, learning about salmon fishing, tidepooling, understanding ethnobotany and local edible plant uses, and having fun in the kitchen making a range of homemade foods. Throughout all this, participants learn about how different changes to the forest, beach, and marine ecosystems affect the food we eat and how our food choices affect the environment and communities around us.
Cost: $999 per person. Price includes all boat transportation around Kachemak Bay, food, and lodging.  Use the button above to register your camper online!

Family Nature Camps - Registration Not Yet Open

Fun and adventure for the family. CACS Family Nature Camps are a great opportunity for families to be together and get outside in an amazing Kachemak Bay setting. Activities include tidepooling, hiking, campfire songs, wildlife watching plus games and hands-on activities for all ages. Families sleep in yurts. Costs include transportation, meals, and the program itself. Kayaking is available for an additional cost. For more information please contact us at (907) 235-6667!  2020 dates are June 26-28, July 2-4, July 31-Aug 2.

Cost: $250/Adult, $150/child. Price includes ALL transportation, meals, supplies, lodging and program costs for the entire weekend! Kayaking is optional and an additional $110 per person.  Use the camp registration button to register your family online for camp!

Cancellation Policy for ALL Camps:  Cancellations made 30 days or more prior to the camp start receive a full refund MINUS a $50 processing fee.  Cancellations 15 - 30 days prior: 50% refund MINUS a $50 processing fee.  Cancellations made 14 days or less prior: no refund.

Knee-high Naturalist Program

Ages 2-4. Fridays: 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. A preschool story hour that includes a story, short hike, and craft activity. Parents welcome.$2 donation requested (Members free!). Starting June 14th- end of August

Bio-Kids

Ages 5-8. Fridays 1-3 p.m. Get a sneak peek of the secret lives of the plants, birds, and animals that live at the Wynn Nature Center. Please dress for the weather!

Drop-ins are welcome. $10/class or $40 for 5 sessions Starting June 14th-August 16th.

Trackers

Ages 8 – 11. Every other Thursday 1-3pm. 

Learn all about the animals that spend their time at the Wynn Nature Center! We will learn to identify these animals by the scat, tracks, and other signs they leave behind. Please dress for the weather!

Drop-ins are welcome. $10/class or $40 for 5 sessions

Trackers will be on June 13th, June 27th, July 11th, July 25th, and August 8th

All participants need a permission form.

Creatures of the Dock

All Ages! 1pm and 3pm daily. Perfect for families or people who have a short amount of time but want to see lots of sea creatures! This daily program is fun for the whole family. Guided tours of the incredible life under the dock at the Homer Harbor. 1-hour tours leave from the CACS yurt on the Spit, June-August for $10 a person.

Ages 6-10. Monday - Wednesday - Friday. 9:30am - 12:00pm. Enjoy a S.neak P.eek I.nto T.hings as you explore sea creatures under the dock, search for seabirds and marine mammals, investigate the beach, learn about plants, do ocean crafts and MORE! $10 per day or $40 for 5 sessions.

The program begins June 10th and goes until August 16th.

All participants need a permission form.

Service Learning Expeditions

Service Learning Expeditions can be arranged from June - August. Groups learn about natural history and stewardship through service projects. Projects can include trail work, building projects, invasive plant management, facilities beautification, and more. High School Internships

CACS offers a volunteer internship program for high school students who wish to gain more experience working in the fields of environmental education and environmental science. The internship combines working at the Carl Wynn Nature Center and the Homer Spit Yurt assisting with our popular Creature of the Dock Tours. Interns are also trained to be camp counselors for our summer camps for youth ages 9-15. Interns are encouraged to work on a special project of interest during their 6-week internship.
